The 2040 Growth and Revitalization Vision

  • Recognizes a possible increase of approximately 170,000 people in the next 30 years

  • Embraces constrained, planned growth, and encourages sustainable development within existing communities whose population centers will be livable and vibrant

  • Values and protects natural, rural, and agricultural assets

  • Helps implement the best parts of local plans including multiple, strategic centers

  • Renews urban core areas by encouraging redevelopment of evolving communities, cities, and towns that have been losing population and experiencing higher poverty and vacancy rates

2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan

From this page you can access information and documents about the two-year planning initiative that began with the Forum on the Future, December 6, 2008.  The public is welcome to participate in the planning process by reviewing documents, checking the activities calendar for opportunities to attend community gatherings and small-group discussions, and joining a work-group as it tackles a particular subject. Comments regarding the 2040 CRP may be submitted to Gabrielle Biciunas at gbiciunas@nirpc.org

Please check back periodically to stay involved, as together the region plans for its future.  If you'd like to be added to the project mailing list (email or snail-mail) to receive direct notice of plan-related activities, or for information on documents or notices in alternate format, please contact Mary Thorne at mthorne@nirpc.org.

Please click on the appropriate link below to access reports, the activities calendar, or information on the plan's Steering Committee.
