Marquette Plan Phase II
and
Porter County Transportation Corridor Plan

In recognition of the importance of Lake Michigan as an asset for development and redevelopment, and as an unparalleled opportunity and challenge, NIRPC conducted a Feasibility Study for Marquette Plan Phase II extension and identified a different set of issues for the shoreline from the Port of Indiana to the Michigan border. It identified the need for broad stakeholder involvement and a desire by communities to engage in the Marquette Plan Phase II visioning process in an effort to create a comprehensive land use vision.  Officially the project is an extension, or Phase II, of The Marquette Plan: The Lakeshore Reinvestment Strategy (2005). NIRPC also identified the need to enhance the region’s economic future by providing a stand alone plan, the Porter County Transportation Corridor Plan, for the future development of US 12 & 20.

Currently, NIRPC is working with a team of consultants (JJR, SEH, Cambridge Systematics, and JF NEW) to develop a regional comprehensive land use vision and a plan for US 12&20 for a select group of communities within the study area in Indiana’s Lake Michigan drainage basin.

The Marquette Visioning Plan Phase II is a regional visioning strategy that creates a comprehensive land use vision for the Lake Michigan drainage basin and a strategy for implementation of that vision. The visioning plan will provide for the needs of the coastal communities and their collectively identified issues.

The Porter County Transportation Corridor Plan will evaluate the existing transportation condition, land uses, and the existing land use plans and develop a land use/ transportation plan for US-12 and US-20 and its surrounding areas.

The Porter County Transportation Corridor Plan will function as a stand alone project, but it will become part of the Marquette Plan Phase II Lakeshore Redevelopment Framework Plan for the areas in Porter and La Porte Counties.  For a complete Scope of Work for both projects click here.
