Economic Development Policy Committee

Statutory/ Regulatory Responsibilities:

  1. Develop economic development policy recommendations for consideration by the Commission
  2. Oversee economic development program development and planning efforts of NIRPC
  3. Provide a forum for stakeholder input

Ongoing Tasks and Committed Work Objectives:

  1. Provide data to support economic development efforts
  2. Assure that economic development planning, environmental planning, and transportation planning are integrated and compatible
  3. Develop a public sector economic development strategy and partner with the Northwest Indiana Forum to integrate with private sector strategy

Targeted Additional Objectives for 2007:

  1. Pursue EDA Funding for Economic Development Strategy
  2. Gain consensus on NIRPC's role in crafting an economic development plan for Northwest Indiana
  3. Identify public sector barriers to economic development and recommend initiatives to overcome them
  4. Provide input into regional comprehensive land use planning to support economic development efforts
  5. Collaborate with the Northwest Indiana Forum to acquire a model for measuring the impact of economic development initiatives

Meeting Schedule:

Fourth Thursday of each month at 8:30am.
