Emissions Reductions Program
NIRPC works with Clean Car Check and Hoosier
Helpers to help make people aware of the programs
in Northwest Indiana that can help reduce
emissions from your vehicle.
Clean Air Car Check
The Clean
Car Check is a free emissions testing
program that is offered at a variety of locations
in Northwest Indiana. For locations and

Hoosier Helpers
The Hoosier Helpers are the Indiana Department of
Transportation's Freeway Service Patrol (FSP).
Hoosier Helpers patrol the Borman Expressway
(Interstate 80/94) and help clear incidents
quickly to ease traffic and help broken down cars
on the highway to help keep the highway clear.
Hoosier Helpers aid nearly 20,000 motorists each
year. Hoosier Helpers also patrol I-65 from
US 30 in Merrillville to 15th Avenue in Gary at
peak travel times. Three units are in
operation at all times and can be reached by
dialing 911 and asking for a Hoosier Helper.
