The Northwestern Indiana
Regional Planning Commission is committed to
assisting LaPorte, Lake,
and Porter Counties with meeting their environmental needs.
NIRPC's Environmental
Department strives for improvement in both water and
air quality for the entire Northwest Indiana region.
This goal is being achieved by several means:
-
“Understanding the problem is the first step in
eliminating it”. Development, production and
distribution of educational materials to maximize
public awareness of the importance of protecting
our environment.
-
The MS4 Community Program- assisting communities
with meeting storm water management requirements
set by the US EPA.
-
Hosting meetings to provide a public forum for
discussion of environmental issues among often
diverse stakeholders; working to resolve issues in
a positive environment.
-
Providing materials and support for regional
watershed planning, Partners for Clean Air, the
household hazardous waste collection and gas can
exchange program, community festivals, county
fairs and environmental education for teachers.
