Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Committee
NIRPC is a regional council of local governments serving the citizens of Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties in Northwest Indiana, providing a forum that enables citizens to address regional issues relating to transportation, the environment and community, and economic development.
2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan
The 2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan (CPR) is the first broad planning initiative covering Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties. The CRP identifies recommendations for land use, human and economic resources, transportation, and environmental policies.
Growth and Conservation
The key physical element of the CRP is shifting development back to established communities.
Environment and Green Infrastructure
Building a regional green infrastructure network will reduce development impacts on the natural and built environment.
The CRP emphasizes increased efficiency of dollars and infrastructure, improving existing roads and expanding transportation options.
Human and Economic Resources
Economic revitalization is dependent upon institutions working together to improve workforce skills, develop infrastructure and create reinvestment opportunities in the core communities.
